Capuchin Crypt

The Navona Underground isn’t the only piece of ancient history buried under the streets of Rome. Comprising five underground chapels located under Rome’s church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini, Capuchin Crypt is a haunting heritage site decorated with the bones of around 3,700 Capuchin friars! The macabre spectacle of skulls and bones was originally intended as a reminder of the ephemeral nature of life.
